Oh me Oh my this thing is scary. I'm not sure I would want to disrupt this giant hornet from Japan. A giant hornet can grow to be the size of your thumb and is rather scary looking if you ask me. It looks like a bee on steroids.
look at the size of that thing
After doing some research I found that a giant hornet eats mostly crop killing insects. In other words they are good. To get the insects back to the hive it dismembers them.
It will sting but only if it feels threatened. I would just say stay out of it's way and you will be fine. Oh if you do happen to get stung by one of these giant hornet you kind of need to go to the hospital. But don't worry only about 40 people die a year form giant hornet sting.
Man that's one big bug |
Impressive!!!
ReplyDelete40 people out of 40?
ReplyDeleteWow, a hornet big enough to shoot with a gun. One could get a lot of practice in.

Looks like a great pose for a sharp Japanese fly tyer to create a "hornet" imitation. I could see a big ol' brown trout having one of those for lunch.
ReplyDeleteteswisgirl- I know right
ReplyDeleteClif - 40 out of the entire population
Shoreman- LOL
Mel- great idea!
This could be the most dangerous insect of all, since you won't face only one, but the whole nest! Mosquitoes will always kill the most people but they are distributed over wider areas. This wasp is much more dangerous than the over-rated bullet ant! Natives survive over 100 stings in ritual! The Australian bulldog ant is the only ant that might be as dangerous as this hornet, except that the ant can't fly! 1 on 1 for pain, the tarantula hawk could be as bad, the giant cicada killer wasp is a dark horse, the lonomia and puss caterpillars are nightmares, as is the assassin bug. Don't forget the seriously severe red/black cow killer!
