I ran across this video on Kimberly's blog Last I checked... A naturalist's rantings... Ok the video shows male Prairie Chickens fighing which isn't too strange. But you have to make sure you have your volume on for this one. I've never had the chance to hear a prairie chicken untill now and I swore Kimberly was in a different country and got the birds name wrong.
Watch and listen for yourself
Of course I was wrong this is right here in the states.
Prairie Chickens Rock!
Have you ever had the chance to see Prairie Chickens? Or have you had the chance to hunt them?
Can you even hunt them?
Let me know leave a comment.

Very cool. Have never seen (or heard) them in person. Love the meadowlarks in the background noise too. :)
ReplyDeleteI've never seen one either....but I sure could use some of those feathers for tyin' flies!
ReplyDeleteIt almost sounds as if they're laughing at each other! Now that's abnormal! :)
All of them making noise together is just the strangest thing ever. Cool, though.
ReplyDeleteHey Ben! Thanks for sharing this. Prairie Chickens are endangered, which isn't surprising, they aren't the brightest. Either that or they aren't winning the ladies over, we didn't see any of them mate when I did my surveying for Wisconsin.
ReplyDeleteI'm really at a loss for words...that video pretty much rocks though! I've never seen these dudes let alone hear them. I think I need to go research (aka google) these guys. I'm intrigued.
